Area of Solutions: Education and Advocacy, Awareness raising

With the human cost of the climate crisis increasing every year, the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) aims to secure international protection for the world¡¯s growing population of climate refugees. Global heating is both an environmental and a human rights issue. Using investigations into climate displacement, award-winning documentary films, outstanding first-hand images, and by building collaborations with local journalists and activists, EJF has been able to document the stories of those at the front lines of climate change. EJF then brings them to high-level government officials to build support for international solutions.

EJF has reached national and international policy makers (via in-depth reports, high-profile media coverage, key advocacy events such as delegate conferences) as well as the general public via EJF¡¯s online channels (website and social media), EJF¡¯s climate exhibition, and films, which have been screened at international film festivals and events.

Since EJF began working to raise awareness of the plight of climate refugees, they have seen the issue garner international recognition. Their films and exhibitions were translated into different languages and screened all around the world. They¡¯ve helped to increase public awareness of the fate of those forced to flee their homes because of the climate crisis. A decade ago, the concept of climate justice was relatively unheard of or ignored on the global stage. Now, however, the term is widely used by governments and media across the world.
